About Dr. Sonza Curtis & What We Treat

Who is “The Gut Doctor” and why does gut health matter so much?

Dr. Sonza Curtis, ND, PA-C, FMCP-M — known as The Gut Doctor™ — is the founder and Clinical Director of Three D Wellness in Roswell, GA. The gut is at the center of Dr. Curtis's approach because research continues to show that gut health is the foundation of nearly every system in the body. When the gut is inflamed, imbalanced, or not absorbing nutrients properly, it can trigger or worsen thyroid dysfunction, autoimmune conditions, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, skin disorders, hair loss, and more. Dr. Curtis specializes in identifying and treating these root-cause gut connections that conventional medicine frequently misses.

Can gut health issues really be connected to my thyroid or Hashimoto's?

Yes — and this is one of the most underdiagnosed connections in conventional medicine. The gut and thyroid are deeply linked through the immune system. Up to 20% of thyroid hormone conversion happens in the gut, and an imbalanced gut microbiome can trigger or amplify the autoimmune response responsible for Hashimoto's thyroiditis. At Three D Wellness, Dr. Curtis evaluates gut health in every patient — including those presenting with thyroid disorders — because treating the gut is often essential to getting thyroid labs and symptoms under control.

I'm a woman over 40 dealing with multiple issues at once — weight gain, fatigue, hair loss, mood changes, and digestive problems. Can you help?

This is one of the most common presentations we see at Three D Wellness, and it is not “just aging” — it is often several overlapping conditions that need to be addressed together. For women over 40, gut imbalances, hormonal shifts (including perimenopause and menopause), thyroid dysfunction, and autoimmune activity frequently occur simultaneously and each one makes the others worse. Dr. Curtis is specially trained to identify and treat these overlapping conditions as a whole, rather than in isolation. Many women who come to us have seen multiple specialists and been told everything is “normal” — we hear you, and we can help.

Does Three D Wellness specialize in perimenopause and menopause?

Yes. Dr. Sonza Curtis is a hormone specialist with deep expertise in perimenopause and menopause. Hormonal changes during this transition affect far more than just hot flashes — they impact gut health, thyroid function, sleep, mood, weight, skin, hair, and energy levels. At Three D Wellness, we use advanced hormone testing (far beyond a basic estrogen check) combined with gut and thyroid evaluation to build a complete picture of what's happening in your body. Treatment plans are fully personalized — no one-size-fits-all approach.

Does Three D Wellness treat hair loss and alopecia?

Yes. Through our Holistic Hair Fix program, Dr. Curtis addresses hair loss and thinning — including alopecia — from the inside out. Hair loss in women is frequently connected to hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, nutrient deficiencies, gut malabsorption, and inflammation — all of which are treatable root causes. Rather than masking the symptom, Dr. Curtis investigates why the hair loss is happening and builds a targeted plan to address it. This program is particularly effective for women over 40 experiencing thinning alongside other hormonal or gut symptoms.

Does Three D Wellness see male patients? What conditions do you treat in men?

Absolutely. Three D Wellness sees male patients and treats a wide range of conditions in men, including hypertension, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes, hormonal imbalances (including low testosterone), gut health disorders, chronic fatigue, and autoimmune conditions. Men often find that addressing gut health and inflammation has a profound impact on blood pressure, metabolic function, and energy levels. Dr. Curtis takes the same root-cause, whole-body approach for male patients that she does for everyone — no symptom management, no band-aids.

What makes Three D Wellness different from a regular primary care doctor or a GI specialist?

A conventional primary care visit typically lasts 10–15 minutes, focuses on symptoms, and often results in a prescription to manage the problem. A GI specialist may scope you and find nothing structurally wrong — and send you home without answers. Dr. Curtis, as The Gut Doctor™, takes a fundamentally different approach: new patients spend up to 90 minutes with her, she orders advanced comprehensive lab testing that most offices never run, and she looks for the root cause of your symptoms rather than treating them in isolation. Three D Wellness is the right fit for people who are tired of being told everything looks “normal” while they feel anything but.

Gut Health & Our Programs

What is leaky gut and can it be treated?

Leaky gut (intestinal permeability) occurs when the lining of the gut becomes damaged, allowing bacteria, undigested food particles, and toxins to pass into the bloodstream. This triggers systemic inflammation that can manifest as fatigue, skin problems, autoimmune flares, brain fog, joint pain, and more. At Three D Wellness, Dr. Curtis — The Gut Doctor™ — uses advanced stool analysis and comprehensive lab testing to identify and treat leaky gut at its root. The Gut Reset Code program was specifically designed for this type of deep gut restoration.

What is the Gut Reset Code program?

The Gut Reset Code is Three D Wellness's comprehensive gut restoration program. It is designed to identify the root causes of digestive distress — including food sensitivities, microbiome imbalances, leaky gut, and inflammation — remove the triggers, and systematically rebuild the gut for lasting relief. The program combines advanced diagnostic testing, a personalized nutrition protocol, targeted supplementation, and ongoing provider support. It is available as a standalone program or as part of our Restore and Transform subscription packages.

Does Three D Wellness treat digestive issues like IBS, bloating, and SIBO?

Yes. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) are among the most common conditions Dr. Curtis treats. Rather than prescribing symptom management, she uses advanced stool testing, breath testing, and comprehensive lab panels to identify what is actually driving your digestive symptoms — whether that's a bacterial imbalance, food sensitivity, gut permeability, or a deeper hormonal or thyroid connection. Many patients who have had colonoscopies and been told everything looks “normal” finally get real answers at Three D Wellness.

Can functional medicine help with adrenal fatigue or chronic fatigue?

Yes. Adrenal dysfunction and chronic fatigue are among the most misunderstood and undertreated conditions in conventional medicine — because standard labs often don't test for them properly. Dr. Curtis evaluates adrenal function, cortisol patterns, thyroid health, gut absorption, nutrient deficiencies, and hormonal balance together to understand why your body is exhausted. This is rarely one single cause — it's almost always a combination, and treating it requires looking at the full picture.

What is the Shot Bar at Three D Wellness?

The Shot Bar at Three D Wellness offers provider-guided vitamin and therapeutic injections, regenerative recovery therapies, and metabolic weight support — all personalized to your health goals. It is available to both existing patients and new visitors. Common offerings include foundational nutrient injections and metabolic support shots. The Shot Bar is a great way to experience Three D Wellness, support your energy and metabolism, and connect with our team. Call 678-621-8100 or ask about Shot Bar availability when you schedule your Discovery Consult.

Does Three D Wellness offer weight loss support?

Yes, but our approach to weight is different from a diet program. At Three D Wellness, unexplained weight gain or difficulty losing weight is treated as a symptom — not a willpower problem. Dr. Curtis investigates the underlying causes, which commonly include thyroid dysfunction, hormonal imbalances, gut malabsorption, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and inflammation. Addressing these root causes often leads to natural, sustainable weight normalization as part of overall healing. We also offer metabolic support through our Shot Bar and weight-focused protocols within our subscription programs.

About Our Practice & Credentials

Is Three D Wellness a naturopathic practice? How does it compare to a chiropractor or wellness spa?

Yes — Three D Wellness is a naturopathic and functional medicine practice led by Dr. Sonza Curtis, ND, PA-C, FMCP-M, who is both a licensed Doctor of Naturopathy and a certified Physician Assistant. This dual credential is rare and powerful: it means Dr. Curtis brings the clinical diagnostic rigor of conventional medicine together with the root-cause, whole-body philosophy of naturopathic medicine. Unlike a general wellness spa or chiropractic office, Three D Wellness orders and interprets advanced clinical lab work, manages complex chronic conditions, and — when needed — works closely with specialists to ensure patients receive a full picture of care. You get the best of both worlds: deep integrative expertise and seamless coordination with the broader medical community.

Does Three D Wellness offer virtual or telehealth appointments?

Yes, Three D Wellness offers virtual consultations for patients who are unable to visit in person. Virtual visits are available for follow-up appointments and for out-of-state patients. Some initial consultations may require an in-person visit — contact the office at 678-621-8100 to discuss what's right for your situation.

How do I know if functional medicine is right for me?

Functional medicine at Three D Wellness may be a great fit if you've been living with unresolved symptoms, have a complex or chronic condition, feel like conventional medicine hasn't given you real answers, or want a provider who will treat you as a whole person. Dr. Curtis offers a free 15-minute Discovery Consult so you can ask questions and decide if it's the right fit — with no obligation. Call 678-621-8100 or visit our contact page to get started.

Lab Service Only

What is Optimal Lab Interpretation?

Optimal Lab Interpretation is a service where Dr. Sonza Curtis reads your blood work, gut test, or hormone panel against optimal ranges, not just the standard normal ranges used to detect disease. Standard labs are designed to catch illness, not depletion. So you can feel exhausted, foggy, and off, and still be told everything looks fine. Dr. Curtis reads your numbers the functional way, identifies the top three to five things driving how you feel, and hands you a targeted supplement recommendation and a clear next step. Flat fee: $297.

Do I need to come into the office or get a lab draw?

No. All testing is done at home. No phlebotomist, no waiting room, no lab draw. We offer three at-home test options: the GI Spotlight for gut symptoms, the SiPhox blood panel for a full-body metabolic picture, and the Mira hormone kit for perimenopause, menopause, or andropause. You order the kit, complete the collection at home, and send it in. Once results arrive, Dr. Curtis reads them and delivers your interpretation.

Which at-home test should I start with?

Most women start with the gut. If bloating, reflux, food reactions, or unpredictable digestion are your loudest symptoms, the GI Spotlight is your best first step. For a full-body picture of energy, metabolism, inflammation, and nutrients, start with the SiPhox blood panel. If hot flashes, mood changes, sleep disruption, or low drive are driving your symptoms, the Mira hormone kit is the right door. Call or text 678-621-8100 if you are not sure where to start.

What does the $297 interpretation include?

Your $297 interpretation includes your markers read against optimal ranges in plain language, the top three to five things driving how you feel, a targeted supplement recommendation fillable through our dispensary at practitioner grade, and your Level: a clear next step tailored to where your body is right now. Optional add-ons: a video walkthrough with our team (+$97) and a Supplement Audit (+$97). Note: 50% of your interpretation fee credits toward any program within 30 days.

Does insurance cover the lab interpretation?

The interpretation service is self-pay. However, HSA and FSA funds often apply. Check with your plan administrator. The at-home test kits are also self-pay. This approach puts you in control of your health data without insurance restrictions dictating what gets tested or how your numbers get read.

How is this different from my annual physical?

Your annual physical checks whether you are sick. Optimal Lab Interpretation checks whether you are depleted and tells you exactly what to do about it. Standard labs use reference ranges built around average populations. Results can look fine by those standards while you are exhausted, gaining weight, and losing hair. Dr. Curtis reads your numbers against the ranges where people actually feel well, identifies what is drifting, and gives you a plan.

What is a Level and what happens after I get my results?

Every interpretation ends with a Level: your exact next step. Recalibrate means a few things are drifting and the Gut Reset Code DIY is a great starting point. Reset means daily symptoms and inflammation are showing; the Cohort program is the right fit. Rebuild means issues are deep and long-standing; the Executive VIP is designed for you. Whatever your Level, 50% of what you paid for the interpretation credits toward any program within 30 days.

Scheduling & Visits

What should I expect at my initial consultation?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Sonza will carefully review and discuss your medical history and perform any needed physical exams. If you are a good candidate for our services, Dr. Sonza will discuss the necessary lab tests and schedule your follow-up appointments.

What's the cost for the initial consultation?

The initial consultation is US$650.

What Are The Restrictions On Virtual Doctor's Visits?

If you are NOT an in-state resident, your initial visit to Three D Wellness must be in person. After the first visit, all follow-up visits can be conducted by phone or virtually using our secure video channel.

Email Etiquette

Patients have unlimited email access with our Three D Wellness provider team. However, if a portal email question or request is deemed by one of our staff to be too complicated or too involved for a response via portal email, they may, at their discretion, require that the patient schedule a phone, telemedicine, or in-person visit instead of responding via email.

Scheduling & Cancellations

A 24-hour cancellation policy for all appointments with a Three D Wellness doctor, health coach, or team member is required. Canceling within 24-hours will result in a $50 charge to the credit card on file.

No-shows: Suppose you do not show up to a phone, video/telemedicine, or in-person appointment without notifying the specific person you have an appointment with either via phone, email, or by changing the appointment using the online scheduling tool on the patient portal. In that case, you will be charged $100 to the card on file.

What is a Group Visit?

Group Visits leverage our time and resources by allowing patients with similar medical issues to receive the teaching portion of their consultation in a group format. Each patient is still allotted individual time with the practitioner, but at a significantly reduced cost. They also enjoy the camaraderie and support of the other group members creating an enhanced healing environment.

  • 6 to 10 patients with similar medical issues meet as a group with a team consisting of a physician or advanced practitioner and, in some cases, a nurse and/or behavioral specialist.
  • Visits typically run 1 to 1.5 hours at a periodic interval appropriate for the medical need and condition.
  • The structure emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to the medical care visit. It has been used for a wide range of medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, menopause, spinal disorders, adult wellness visits, and much more.
  • Each group session includes an individualized medical review by a licensed practitioner, patient education, and a facilitated group discussion.
  • Billing is based on standard medical and behavioral billing practices.

Billing & Insurance

We Are Not A Conventional Primary Care Physician

We do not take the place of a primary care physician. Because you can message us online during business hours, we are often able to take care of acute requests. However, for example, prescribing an antibiotic for a minor infection such as a sinus infection, you will need to contact your primary care provider.

It is important to note the following, however:

  • We do not fulfill an insurance company’s requirement for an in-network primary care physician as we are not in-network with any insurance plan.
  • We will make every effort to make you fully aware of any additional lab fees that may be incurred and to give you the opportunity to choose which lab tests you feel comfortable paying for.
  • We do not have a 24-hour answering service and do not take calls on weekends. If you need to be seen urgently or have a medical emergency you would need to visit an ER or urgent care center.

We Do Not Bill Insurance Companies

The cost of any services provided by Three D Wellness that are not included in the episode of care fee will be billed to you directly.

Non-Three D Wellness medical expenses such as lab tests and prescription medications may be covered by a member's health insurance plan per that plan's rules.

Three D Wellness will not submit a medical claim to insurance on your behalf. We cannot assist you with claim resolution for our services.

We will provide you with a detailed billing summary that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Depending on your plan's rules, there may be procedures or lab tests that are not covered.

About Lab Tests

  • Most lab tests ordered by a Three D Wellness physician will be billed directly to your insurance by the lab.
  • Some lab tests we offer as part of our functional medicine testing program may not be covered by insurance, and in these cases, you will be charged a fee for a particular test by the lab or through Three D Wellness.
  • The specific tests ordered will be personalized to you based on your initial evaluation with a Three D Wellness doctor and may include blood, saliva, urine, or stool testing.
  • We will make every effort to make you fully aware of any additional lab fees that may be incurred and give you the opportunity to choose which lab tests you feel comfortable paying for.
  • You are under no obligation to purchase any specialty testing.
  • Should any lab results indicate you may need further testing, you will be directed to continue your care with your primary care physician or a relevant specialist. Should you choose, you may continue to work with your Three D Wellness physician.
  • At-home test kits: If a lab test kit is mailed to you by Three D Wellness, you will be charged the day the kit is mailed.
  • If your particular insurance company only pays for blood work done at a particular lab facility like LabCorp, you must inform us of this before blood work is done. Most insurance plans cover labs done by major national labs, including Bio reference, a lab often used by Three D Wellness because of their favorable pricing policies for patients.

What is a Health Coach

You've finally made it to the end of the day. Exhausted, you realize you promised yourself, for real this time, that today was going to be the day you went to the gym after work. However, as you begin the drive home, you convince yourself that the drive-thru sounds a lot better, and tomorrow, you'll go to the gym.

Don't worry. You're not alone. People everywhere are overwhelmed to the point that their health has taken what feels like a permanent back seat. And that's where a Health Coach comes into play.

I like to compare Health Coaching to my high school basketball coach. Coach Sprague was firm but fun and committed to helping us succeed in all areas, not just on the court. He poured into us the tools we needed to win games four days a week. On game day, he was on the sideline, pushing us to play harder and giving us words of encouragement. However, one thing Coach Sprague didn't do was play for us. While he gave us everything we needed to win, we had to execute it.

Health Coaching is very similar.

Health Coaches are knowledgeable advisors who provide ongoing support and guidance as you set goals and make sustainable changes that improve your health and happiness.

My style of Health Coaching takes on more of a holistic perspective. The focus is not only on what you eat but also on the other parts of your life that play a role in your decisions about food. Are you stressed at work, and sugar keeps you going? Are you in a miserable relationship, and eating provides comfort? Maybe you're so busy that cooking a healthy meal is not an option or taking care of your family drains all of your energy, leaving you with none to work out.

Whether it's one-on-one or in a group, working together, we will make small behavioral changes that lead to ginormous lifestyle gains! Eating healthy and being happy are not impossible tasks.
